New Eco-Friendly Namaste Ring!

New eco-friendly jewelry item: Sterling Silver Namaste Ring

We have been working hard to make sure that all of our jewelry is now eco-friendly. All sterling silver is a minimum of 92% recycled fine silver and the gold varies depending on the karat; 14K gold is a minimum of 78% recycled, while 18K gold is 90% recycled gold. Click here if you are interested in reading more details about our eco-friendly jewelry, precious metalsand business practices.

And, we are announcing a new sterling silver Namaste Ring! This ring is a bit heavier than the stackable version of the Namaste ring and does not have the word 'Namaste' in English. Instead, the band has 'Namaste' in sanskrit on the ring spaced evenly 4 times.

The new sterling silver Namaste Ring is available in both an antiqued finish (where the letters are darkened) and a non-antique finish (both pictured above).

An Amazing Resource - new book: Rhino for Jewelry

I am the assistant teacher for the evening Rhino 3D for Jewelry course at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC (FIT). The teacher of the class, Dana Buscaglia, is an incredibly talented woman who knows the Rhino software inside and out, particularly from a jewelry making standpoint. She has been a jewelry professional, gaining hands-on knowledge for over 20 years, she is the president of the JDPN, the Jewelry Design Professionals Network and has worked with several of the top-name companies in the industry.

The point of providing all this information about Dana Buscaglia is to share with anyone who is interested that she has officially released the 2nd edition of her instructional manual: Rhino for Jewelry.

Rhino for Jewelry is the most comprehensive manual available for jewelry for the incredibly dynamic and flexible Rhino software from McNeel. If you have any desire to learn the software, this book is a step by step, easy to understand set of tutorials that will teach you everything you need to become knowledgeable and capable using Rhino. I have been working with these tutorials since I started learning Rhino a few years ago, and without them I don't believe there would even be a curriculum for Rhino at FIT.

Payson to be interviewed on Inspirista Radio

I will have the distinct pleasure of being interviewed tomorrow by Jennifer Tuma-Young, a life-balance consultant and 'Inspirista'. An 'Inspirista', as defined on Jennifer's website is, "a woman who has a positive attitude, an inner glow, a contagious energy that makes you want to smile. An Inspirista takes challenges with strides, and doesn’t allow a failure to hold her back, or a risk to scare her off. An Inspirista turns failure into her own success." If you would like to read more about Jennifer, you can visit her website at www.inspirista.net, and if you would like to tune into the show, or catch the replay you can click here.

Ethical Gold = Eco-friendly Gold

The BBC shared a story today about a jeweler in Paris who is 'pioneering' the concept of 'ethical gold' - gold which has been sourced from mines where workers are treated fairly, or which has been recycled. It's an interesting story and an interesting concept - part of which has been true for the jewelry industry for centuries. Because the metal has been so highly prized in so many cultures, jewelers have always practiced very careful 'recycling' processes for gold - capturing even the fine dust from filing. Payson Jewelry and Transformational Jewelry have taken it one step further...

All of the fine gold content (the part that makes up the 14K, 18K or 22K of gold jewelry) in www.paysonjewelry.com and www.transformationaljewelry.com jewelry comes from recycled gold. We use a local, family owned casting house in NYC (even taking the subway there, so no extra wasted fossil fuels), that get's their fine gold and fine silver (100% gold and 100% silver) from a US based company that purchased NO gold or silver from mines. They are one of the world's largest refining companies, and practice eco-friendly refining processes (according to their website). So, in the end, a minimum of 72% of 14K gold, and 90% of 18K gold in www.paysonjewelry.com and www.transformationaljewelry.com collections is recycled. And, our silver is guaranteed a minimum of 92.5% recycled.

TP Entrepreneur

Mike Michalowicz, author of the wonderful book The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur (he's also becoming known as the TPEntrepreneur, you can follow him at twitter by using @TPEntrepreneur), included some SWAG we created for him in his VLOG this week. He also covers one of my long time favorite companies, Life Is Good. I think I got my first "Life Is Good" T-shirt in 1995 or 1996. I fell head over heels in love with them, their style and their messages. My favorite ball cap is one of theirs too.

So, if you want to see the Toilet Paper Entrepreneur video that talks about Transformational Jewelry, click here:

http://www.toiletpaperentrepreneur.com/blog/the-life-is-good-story-video

And, I highly recommend you check out The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur book. It's simple, quite brilliant, and very very helpful if you are an entrepreneur. If you're not, many of the concepts he includes can and will help your life in general if you apply them.

The *BIG* Jewelry show in Las Vegas

While we have yet to attend the *big* jewelry show in Las Vegas in June of each year, we have many associates, clients and vendors who go to exhibit and participate for a variety of reasons. While in the jewelry district of Manhattan (or Diamond District as some people know it) yesterday I was surrounded by men with guns and huge 18 wheel trucks that went on for several blocks. It took me a few minutes to realize what was going on...then it hit me. The 'Vegas' show. Yesterday, during business hours, tons of diamonds, precious gems, gold, platinum and silver were being loaded onto trucks here in NYC (and in LA, Chicago and other cities all over the country) to be driven, under heavy guard, to the show in Vegas. Here are a few images showing a tiny bit of what I could see. The angles aren't the best on the shots, but you can see the trucks all lined up, and you can see some of the armed guards - between each truck was a group of 10-20 men.

A few tips for men on Valentine's Day...

So guys, you've heard that it’s not the gift that counts, but the thought? Well, what if I told you that how you package, or deliver your gift, can be just as important as the gift itself? Perhaps even more so, as the memory of the experience will stay with your special someone forever. Here are a few fun and easy tips to help you charm your girl.

And, there is no need to get anxious about how much you should spend, or that a gift has to be something particularly exceptional. Everyone knows money is tight right now for most people, and a little creativity will knock our socks off!

For those of you who want a hand figuring out what to do, we share the Top Ten Ways to Impress Your Girl with Gift-Giving Style. And guess what? A lot of these things you probably have around the house. The gift? Something simple, we have a few suggestions for you, but first look at how you can present your gift and create that special experience all of us ladies are really looking for.

10. You Can't Go Wrong with Chocolate: wouldn't it be sweet to pull a small gift out of a bowl of chocolate kisses? Wrap your gift in a small box, or leave it loose, and bury it in the dish of chocolates, or, let the chocolate be the distraction, drop a beautiful silver ring in with all those kisses and tell her to close her eyes and fish around for “a special piece.” What you'll need: A bag of kisses and a nice bowl.

9. Have her wear it, without even knowing: Place your gift into the pocket of her favorite robe, coat or sweater. When she puts it on she’ll notice, or, you can give her a few hints. What You'll Need: her favorite piece of clothing with a pocket.

8. Create a Scavenger Hunt: A few (maybe four or five) clues strategically placed around the house or apartment will build suspense, enthrall her and demonstrate your cleverness and charm. What you'll need: white paper, red pen and a little creative wit.

7. Gift-on-the-Go: She'll be delighted when she heads to the gym and finds a little package in her bag... She's not an exercise fiend? Place it into a pocket of her purse, then call her a few hours later and tell her to look for that special something. What you'll need: her purse or gym bag.

6. Breakfast of Champions: Think about her first drink or meal of the day, and selectively place a necklace or ring into her favorite coffee mug, glass, or cereal bowl. What you'll need: kitchen pottery.

5. Office Mate: Does she work at home, or hop online after work? Sneak something on to her keyboard, or in the top drawer of her desk. What you'll need: home office or laptop.

4. Enlist a Little Assistance: Ask for the help of a friend. Have them drop by her office just to, "say hello." Once there, they can either sneak it onto her desk, or say the have a “Special Delivery.” What you'll need: good friend with sense of humor.

3. Memo: Ask one of her co-workers (probably someone who's close) to slip the gift into an office file they know she'll be the next to use, into her in-basket, etc. What you'll need: a sneaky colleague and maybe some beer to say "thanks".

2. Let Her Pet do the Talking – if there's a resident Fido or friendly kitty, tie a ring or dinner invitation around their neck and let him/her play courier. What you'll need: ribbon and an affectionate, cooperative pet.

1. Pillow Talk: This may be an obvious one, but you don’t have to deliver in the obvious way (a box on her pillow). Place the gift under her pillow, slip it in a pouch and put it under the sheets on her side of the bed, in the drawer on top of her night gowns or put a gift card in the book she is reading. (Well...if she's reading a book on V-Day, you may want to re-evaluate where this relationship is headed and think of a few ways to spice things up.) What you'll need: pillow, sheets, drawer or book.

And, just in case you need some suggestions as to what to give, we can help you out. You can find the following wonderful gifts that say what you want to communicate at PaysonJewelry.com:

“You are beautiful, I love you” necklace

“Courage Faith Trust Love” Ring

“Expect Miracles” Ring

“Love” Necklace in 14K Gold

“Gratitude” Bracelet

So it's not related...but I wanted to share

In the spirit of sharing things that bring me great joy I wanted to write a quick note about a book I read recently that has openned up a whole new literary category for me: serial fiction.

The book is The Denver Cereal, by one of my social networking buddies (from Plurk). A wonderful woman by the name of Claudia Hall Christian. Originally the work was published a chapter a week, divided into 6 daily segments. The book, which is available at www.denvercereal.com, is also there as a download or to be read on the site for free. I happen to prefer real books, so ordered a copy, and could NOT put it down. I was immediately immersed in the world of the main characters Jill and Jacob, and have since not been able to get enough.

As soon as I finished the book, I turned to the website to catch up with the current writing. The book ends at chapter 26, so you can pick up and read from chapter 27 onward on the daily posts. Now I get the daily installment in my email inbox (but must admit, most days I can't wait for it to come in the early evening, I've already been to the website and read it - twice).

I highly recommend getting a copy of the book to support the writer, and since you can start it for free to see if you like it, what have you got to loose? :-)

(Image is the book cover, used with permission of the author, Claudia Hall Christian.)

Our Very First Press Release!

This image is of the actual ring worn in the Cold Souls Film.

It's so exciting to be growing and sharing my passion with the world! It's amazing to be in a major motion picture (Cold Souls - the movie is debuting this weekend and the Sundance Film Festival!), to have been on Tim Gunn's Guide to Style last year (with the custom guitar pick necklace), and to be building a resume of amazing blogs, catalogs and radio shows. I can't wait to see what 2009 will bring!

So far (and it's only been 2 weeks) it's already brought our first official Press Release - focusing on the Cold Souls movie and the origin of Payson & Co., LLC - and our two jewelry lines - the Transformational Jewelry Collection and the Payson Jewelry Collection, the press release was very well received.
